A boat and a trip to the lake is no longer the only way to enjoy watersports in Fort McMurray. Thanks to a new program sponsored by Syncrude, residents now have the opportunity to waterski year-round and indoors.
Syncrude is proud to support the first indoor towed watersports program in North America. Offered by Water Ski & Wakeboard Alberta (WSWA) in Fort McMurray’s world-class Syncrude Aquatic Centre facility at MacDonald Island Park, this exciting new ski and ride program will use an indoor winch to pull participants from one end of the pool to the other on their water ski. An introductory program will cover basic skills in towed water sports, while advanced skiers and riders can develop their skills and transition to competitive ski development programs.

“Syncrude is an innovative company and has a track record for supporting aquatics in the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo that improve the quality of life,” says Sheldon Germain, Director with WSWA.
Thanks to Syncrude’s support for the next three years to subsidize the cost of pool rental, it will make the program accessible and affordable for all participants.

“It’s important to support fun and safe programs that will better our community members’ health, fitness and overall well-being,” says Jo Anne Hulan, Community Investment Representative. “Syncrude’s sponsorship of the indoor water ski program will give participants the opportunity to stay active and train year-round in the safe environment of a 50-metre indoor pool.”
