Syncrude welcomes students to site on Take Our Kids to Work Day

On November 2, more than 60 Grade 9 students participated in Take Our Kids to Work Day at Syncrude, going to work with their parents to learn about a career in the oil sands.

“Every year the event gets more popular, and this year was no exception. We had a record turn out with students and parents,” says Tracy Bourassa, this year’s Syncrude Take Our Kids To Work Coordinator. “I’m not sure who gets more excited about this event – the parent or student. It’s a great opportunity for the students to learn about what their parent does at work every day, and get them thinking about their own careers down the road.”

James Farandatos, Automotive Technician, and his son Tristan, looked forward to spending the day at Mildred Lake’s Auto Shop, Light Duty Shop and mine.

“I basically want to follow in his footsteps. I want to be a mechanic when I’m older,” said Tristan, a Grade 9 student from Holy Trinity. “I’m excited to spend the day hanging out with my Dad. Syncrude is pretty amazing so far.”
