(FORT McMURRAY, AB – May 6, 2016) – Syncrude Canada Ltd. is making a $100,000 donation to the Canadian Red Cross to help those affected by massive wildfires across Wood Buffalo.
“We thank the Red Cross for assisting people in need as we deal with the devastating effects of the forest fires in Fort McMurray,” says Syncrude President and CEO Mark Ward. “We are deeply grateful to all emergency responders, volunteers and citizens for their support.”
The Red Cross has a network of highly-trained volunteers who are supporting registration, family re-unification, assisting in shelters as well as providing accommodation and basic necessities like food and water.
In addition to the donation, Syncrude is providing immediate financial assistance to employees to help with emergency expenses.
Syncrude has also evacuated many workers and their families to safe places and continues to provide accommodations and support to those remaining on site. Syncrude emergency personnel and equipment has also been deployed to Fort McMurray to assist in the firefighting efforts.
Families and individuals who have been evacuated can call the Red Cross at 1-888-350-6070 with inquiries or to register. Registering helps reconnect family members and enables response agencies to mobilize resources.
Donations can be made to the Red Cross at www.redcross.ca.
