The Canadian Council of Aboriginal Business (CCAB) has recertified Syncrude at the highest level of its Progressive Aboriginal Relations (PAR) program, the only corporate responsibility assurance program in the world with an emphasis on Aboriginal relations.

It marks the sixth consecutive time Syncrude has achieved PAR’s gold level. Syncrude remains one of only two oil sands operators to achieve PAR’s highest certification.

Beginning in 1998, PAR is a management and reporting program helping companies assess, plan and achieve Aboriginal relations goals with a certification program that confirms performance at the Bronze, Silver or Gold level.
The designation is supported by an independent, third-party verification of company reports on outcomes and initiatives in four key areas — employment, community investment, business development and community engagement — as well as a juried review by Aboriginal business people.
Syncrude operates the Syncrude Project, a Joint Venture undertaking among Canadian Oil Sands Limited, Imperial Oil Resources, Mocal Energy Limited, Murphy Oil Company Ltd., Nexen Oil Sands Partnership, Sinopec Oil Sands Partnership and Suncor Energy Ventures Partnership.
