Syncrude employees have voted the Fort McMurray SPCA as their charity of choice to receive a $25,000 donation from the annual Give with Heart campaign.
Give with Heart, part of Syncrude’s Good Neighbours program, recognizes employees and retirees who volunteer their time and talents and supports the organizations they serve.
“We’re very excited and honoured to be selected. Syncrude employees give a great deal to our organization,” said Fort McMurray SPCA Executive Director Tara Clarke. “This money is going to allow us to expand some of our existing programs and make improvements to the shelter.”
The Fort McMurray SPCA provides care for homeless, abused and abandoned animals. Its goal is to ensure every companion animal in the region is humanely treated through protection, proper care, public awareness and education.
The four remaining finalists, as voted by Syncrude employees: the Centre of Hope, Fort McMurray Chinese-Canadian Cultural Society, Fort McMurray Victim Services and the Sanatan Mandir Cultural Society of Fort McMurray, will each receive a $5,000 grant from Syncrude. Two $2,500 grants were also awarded to non-profit organizations in Edmonton and Calgary.
Syncrude’s Good Neighbours program provides grants to community charities and causes when employees or retirees volunteer at least 40 hours per year with an eligible organization.
Good neighbours program distributed
in volunteer grants to 74 non-profit groups in 2013.
Syncrude also provided $94,000 to community groups to help offset the cost of travel to out-of-town events such as sports tournaments. By the end of this year, Syncrude will have donated a total of $6-million through its community investment program.
