Community votes KidSport as $10,000 donation recipient

The community came together to show its support for local youth this past weekend by voting KidSport Wood Buffalo as the recipient of a $10,000 donation from Syncrude.

Visitors to Syncrude’s booth at the Fort McMurray Spring Show and Market voted for one of four equally deserving organizations, with KidSport Wood Buffalo coming out on top. In total, more than 6,000 attendees voted.

“We’d like to thank the community for voting for us as well as Syncrude for selecting KidSport as one of the four organizations to support,” said Leanne Patey, KidSport Wood Buffalo chairperson.

KidSport provides youth an opportunity to participate in organized sport programs by helping remove financial barriers. Thanks to donations like this, we’re able to make a difference in so many children’s lives.

All four local non-profits were selected from a long list of organizations where Syncrude employees and retirees volunteer. KidSport, Volunteer Wood Buffalo (FuseSocial), the Wood Buffalo Regional Science Fair and Fort McMurray Environment Week Committee were all in the running.

Syncrude invests in these and other groups through its Good Neighbours Program which supports employees who volunteer their time and talents. Syncrude supports these contributions with grants to help organizations and projects that play a vital role in the community.

In recognition of their efforts, Syncrude will be making supporting donations to the three remaining non-profits and would like to thank the volunteers of each organization for their hard work throughout the weekend. Syncrude also thanks the thousands of community members who took the time to vote.

Syncrude distributed $6 million from its Community Investment Program in 2013 and more than $26 million over the past five years.
