Syncrude announces new executive appointment

Syncrude President and Chief Executive Officer Scott Sullivan is returning to ExxonMobil effective May 1, 2014.


Scott’s new assignment is Business Development Manager and Lead Country Manager, China. He has served as Syncrude’s President and CEO since August 2010.

It was a great experience leading the Syncrude organization filled with tremendous people who are committed to the responsible development of the oil sands.

Also effective May 1, Syncrude is splitting the current position of President and CEO into two roles. They are Chief Executive Officer as well as President and Chief Operating Officer.

Mark Ward, currently ExxonMobil Production Manager and Lead Country Manager, Nigeria, will become Syncrude’s new CEO.

The President and COO will be announced at a later date. The position will be responsible for the day-to-day operations of Syncrude.

Scott’s leadership supported a talented Syncrude workforce, and they will continue to drive the organization’s success in the years ahead.”

The Syncrude Project is a Joint Venture undertaking among Canadian Oil Sands Limited, Imperial Oil Resources, Mocal Energy Limited, Murphy Oil Company Ltd., Nexen Oil Sands Partnership, Sinopec Oil Sands Partnership and Suncor Energy Ventures Partnership.
