Syncrude employees have voted Kids Forever to receive a $25,000 donation in the annual Give With Heart campaign.
“I would like to thank Syncrude and its employees for the gift they have given us,” says John Foy, founder and president of Kids Forever. “This $25,000 will go towards helping three local kids who are right now all battling cancer at a very young age.”
Founded in 1998, Kids Forever supports children who face medical and physical challenges by providing support to groups such as Ronald McDonald House, Camp HeHoHa, the Stollery Children’s Hospital, Glenrose Rehabilitation Hospital and Northern Lights Regional Hospital.
The Give With Heart campaign recognizes employees and retirees who volunteer their time in the community. The campaign kicked off at the Fort McMurray Tourism Fall Show and Market, where the public selected the Wood Buffalo Food Bank Association as the recipient of a $10,000 donation.
Syncrude then asked employees to choose from 65 eligible community organizations to arrive at a shortlist of four finalists. Employees then voted from those four to choose their favourite, with the top choice receiving a $25,000 grant. The other three finalists — Fort McMurray Victim Services, The Children’s Centre and Santa’s Anonymous — will each receive a $5,000 grant.
As part of the promotion, Syncrude also ran a workplace campaign recognizing the work of employees who volunteer their time to support community causes. Syncrude’s Good Neighbours program provides grants to local charities when its employees or retirees volunteer at least 40 hours per year with an eligible organization.
The program saw $126,000 in grants handed out this year. Syncrude also donated $76,000 to community groups to offset the cost of travel to out-of-town events such as sports tournaments. Syncrude distributed $6 million through its community investment program in 2013.
