Residents answered the call to give with heart as more than 4,000 votes were cast during the Fort McMurray Tourism Fall Show and Market this past weekend.
Visitors to Syncrude’s booth voted for their charity of choice to receive a $10,000 donation from Syncrude. While all five organizations are equally deserving, it was the Wood Buffalo Food Bank Association that received the most votes.
“We are so pleased and grateful to the community for voting for us,” said Arianna Johnson, Executive Director with the organization. “It’s a true testament of the value the community places on what we do and the importance of ensuring no one goes hungry. Thank you Syncrude for your generous and ongoing support; without the investment of companies like Syncrude, we would not be able to do what we do so well.”
All five local non-profits were selected from a long list of organizations where Syncrude employees and retirees volunteer. The Food Bank, the Hub Family Resource Centre, the Multicultural Association of Wood Buffalo, Big Brothers/Big Sisters and Santa’s Anonymous were in the running.
Syncrude invests in these and other groups through its Good Neighbours Program which supports employees who volunteer their time and talents. Syncrude supports these contributions with grants to help organizations and projects that play a vital role in the community.
Syncrude distributed $6 million from its Community Investment Program in 2012 and more than $21 million over the past five years.
