Syncrude wins two Business Awards of Distinction

Company cited for Aboriginal Relations and Workplace Learning


(Fort McMurray, Alberta) Syncrude Canada Ltd. received two accolades at last night’s Alberta Business Awards of Distinction ceremony, in Calgary. The company took home awards for excellence in Aboriginal Relations and Workplace Learning.

The Aboriginal Relations Best Practice Award of Distinction is given to a non-Aboriginal business that demonstrates outstanding achievements in Aboriginal relations, including economic development, employment and training, and Aboriginal community support.

Jim Carter, Syncrude President and Chief Operating Officer stated, “It’s tremendous for Syncrude to be recognized in this way, because it is something we have worked hard at for the last 27 years. The important thing for us is how much has been gained by both Syncrude and our Aboriginal neighbors from our commitment to working together.”

The Partners in Workplace Learning Award of Distinction is given to an employer committed to, and successfully implementing learning or training opportunities for their employees in the workplace, working with a provincial post-secondary institution.

Charles Ruigrok, Syncrude Chief Executive Officer, stated, “We are honoured to win this award as our commitment to workplace learning is a fundamental value that has helped us and our employees to continue to grow and develop many of the innovations that are driving our industry forward.”

The awards are organized by the Alberta Chambers of Commerce, which is Alberta?s largest business organization.
