Plant incident during unit start up

Worker suffers non-life threatening injury


(Fort McMurray, Alberta) – At approximately 10:40 p.m. Sunday, January 30th, an incident within a Hydrogen Plant sent one process operator to the Northern Lights Regional Health Centre with non-life threatening injuries.

Syncrude emergency services responded within minutes of the incident.

The incident occurred during normal startup procedures following a scheduled maintenance turnaround of the unit. The extent of the damage and impact on production is undetermined at this time.

A full-scale investigation is being conducted to determine the cause of the incident, and all proper authorities have been notified.

Syncrude’s primary focus is the safety and well being of all its employees and contractors.
