Syncrude joined the South Asia tsunami relief effort through a $50,000 donation to the Canadian Red Cross, announced today.
In addition, the joint venture operation has earmarked another $100,000 to match employee donations to designated Canadian non-governmental organizations responding to the crisis in South Asia.
“Syncrude employees have already opened up their wallets to help a number of organizations that are responding to the disaster,” said Syncrude CEO Charles Ruigrok.

The designated organizations that qualify for a Syncrude match donation include:
- The Canadian Red Cross
- CARE Canada
- OXFAM Canada
- World Vision Canada
- UNICEF Canada
- Save the Children Canada
Syncrude will match donations made between December 26th, 2004 and January 31st, 2005.
The Syncrude Project is a joint venture operated by Syncrude Canada Ltd. and owned by Canadian Oil Sands Limited, ConocoPhillips Oilsands Partnership II, Imperial Oil Resources, Mocal Energy Limited, Murphy Oil Company Ltd., Nexen Inc., and Petro-Canada Oil and Gas.
