Syncrude invests more than $2 million in local community

(Fort McMurray, Alberta) – Syncrude Canada Ltd. announced today the donation of more than $2 million to health, family and recreational initiatives in Fort McMurray. Organizations to receive funding include:

“We are extremely pleased to have the opportunity to be a part of these worthwhile programs that directly benefit the health and welfare of both adults and children,” said Marcel Coutu, Syncrude’s Chairman, and President and Chief Executive Officer of the Canadian Oil Sands Trust. “These local community groups make a significant difference to so many lives, young and old, every day and we are proud to support their endeavors.”

“These contributions are another tangible example of Syncrude’s commitment to sustainable development that goes beyond our own front gate to embrace a wide reaching group of stakeholders,” said Charles Ruigrok, Syncrude’s Chief Executive Officer.

“By working with local groups to develop partnerships to provide health, family and recreational facilities, we can help improve the lives of our employees and the citizens of the community in which we live and do business,” he added. “The funds that we are giving to these organizations will help Fort McMurray to offer the types of support services that match those located in other urban centres in Alberta.”

Syncrude has a long history of supporting programs that address community issues in the Wood Buffalo region and across Alberta. Over the past seven years, the company has invested more than $10 million supporting community projects that range from health and education to the environment and the arts.

The Syncrude Project is a joint venture operated by Syncrude Canada Ltd. and owned by Canadian Oil Sands Limited, ConocoPhillips Oilsands Partnership II, Imperial Oil Resources, Mocal Energy Limited, Murphy Oil Company Ltd., Nexen Inc., and Petro-Canada Oil and Gas.
