Syncrude researchers receive ASET honours

Two of Syncrude’s Research teams were honoured by the Alberta Society of Engineering Technologists

 
Two of Syncrude’s Research teams were honoured by the Alberta Society of Engineering Technologists (ASET) on May 1st. The Syncrude Research Pilot Teams for Exploratory Extraction and Upgrading were given the award for technical excellence.

These awards recognize individuals or organizations for their consistently outstanding work.

Qualities to be considered include: high levels of technical knowledge, important contributions to processes, consistent professional attitude, significant contributions to technical works, innovative technical solutions, assistance provided to others and leadership.

The teams have gained much recognition throughout the oil sands industry for their groundbreaking work with oil sand and upgrading technology, continuous improvement in safety, process and collaboration research. Their work has resulted in several Canadian and U.S. patents and the processes they have developed have been implemented into various operations.

“These teams have contributed a great deal to oil sand technology. Many technologies used by Syncrude were developed and improved from their works, said ASET president Scott Turner.

“The teams’ diverse technical expertise and professionalism demonstrated throughout are well deserving of the respect and recognition of the technical community.”
